Do you know that little voice in your head that tells you that you're not good enough? The voice that loves to remind you of all your faults, your insecurities, and doesn't allow you to be your best self? Well, that's self-doubt, and we're here to help you overcome it.
As a potential or current client representative, we understand that many of us struggle with self-doubt when it comes to our careers. We question whether or not we're good enough or talented enough to achieve our goals. But with these five simple tips, you can overcome self-doubt and achieve your professional goals. Just remember, don't give up on yourself, and believe you can do it!
1. Explore your strengths
Take a moment to assess your strengths. It doesn't have to be anything monumental or life-changing. It can be that you're a good friend, a good listener, or even a good cook. When you recognize your strengths and truly ground yourself in positive thoughts, it takes power away from your inner critic and gives power to your self-confidence.
2. Don't compare yourself to others
It's easy to look at what other client representatives are doing and believe that you're not doing enough and that your accomplishments are inadequate. Luckily for you, life isn't a "one size fits all" type of deal. It doesn't have a universal timeline or handbook that you need to follow (although that would be nice). Still, only you can know what's best for you. Trust your path rather than following someone else's.
3. Don't fixate yourself on a particular outcome
As a client representative, while it can be exciting to reach your goal of a certain number of donors, having tunnel vision towards a particular outcome can also be detrimental to your self-confidence. This mentality of outcome and only outcome fails to realize that there is a lot beyond your control that can ultimately let you down. So, rather than focusing on the result, why not focus on the process? Focus on what you're learning along the way, the fun you're having, or the value it's giving you. Expanding your mindset leaves less room for disappointment and makes the process more enjoyable.
4. Don't be afraid of mistakes
When the voice of self-doubt creeps into your head when reaching out to a new donor, the fear of potential failure can be so crippling that it might prevent you from starting in the first place. While people don't shout their losses and mistakes from the mountain tops, dealing with them positively is still a huge part of overcoming self-doubt. What builds confidence more than overcoming your obstacles and knowing that you survived?
5. Have a reliable support system
Suppose you feel overwhelmed by self-doubt, and it's keeping you a prisoner in your mind. In that case, it can be hard to escape without the help of a reliable support system. Try to engage in mindful conversations by reaching out to someone you trust in these situations. How you see yourself will be a hundred percent different from how someone you love sees you, and a reminder of how amazing you are can go a long way.
So if you find yourself struggling with self-doubt, remember that you are not alone, and more importantly, there are things you can do to help overcome these negative thoughts and feelings.
